From small home fire alarms to large commercial systems
In the Mid-South, local fire departments typically require businesses to install a commercial fire alarm system before a User Permit for the building is issued.
Commercial systems are larger and more complex than home fire alarm systems. They require the high level of systems expertise that ESSC’s team of trained technicians can provide. We thoroughly inspect, test, monitor, and service our fire alarm systems to ensure they are in working order and compliant with applicable standards — including local fire laws, National Fire Protection Association(NFPA) codes, and your insurance carrier’s requirements. In many cases installing an ESSC alarm system may reduce your fire insurance premium; check with your insurance agent.
How your ESSC fire alarm system works
The events that trigger the fire alarm include smoke, heat from a flame, water flow in a sprinkler system, or an activated pull station.
When the smoke or flame detector is triggered,a signal goes to the electrical control panel. The panel is programmed to activate your fire alarms, which may be audible as well as have a strobe light.
Depending on how the electronic panel is configured, the system can send a fire alert notification via e-mail to any desktop or mobile device — to the security guard, facility manager, and of course the local fire department. It can also send the fire alert as a text message to employees’ mobiles.
The fire alarm control panel connects to the sensors that detect the fire, thealarms, and transmits the signal to designated personnel at your location as well as the local fire company via dedicated telephone line, cellular signal,or radio.
ESSC fire alarm systems can include the following components:
- Indicating appliances – alarms such as horns, strobe lights, chimes, and bells.
- Control panel – with an alphanumeric display of the system status.
- Touchpad – for silencing false alarms and resetting the system following an event.
- Battery back-up – in case of power failure.
- Zone wiring – enables the system to activate alarms in the specific area of the building where there is smoke or fire.
- Fire safety doors.
